DMAE face creams

Are you interested in a wrinkle cream that tightens loose or saggy skin and even firms facial muscles?

DMAE doesn't appear to have any side effects. I could only find two extracts on its use in skincare (plus one on its abilty to give the user lucid dreams when eaten) and this is from the labs of Johnson and Johnson.

I wouldn't normally take a cosmetics company at its word, but the other extract was from an independent lab, and they agreed with these conclusions, if not quite so elegantly. Therefore I offer my translation of the study into plain english, and its veracity is for the reader to decide.

The role of dimethylaminoethanol in cosmetic dermatology.

"Skin care creams to reduce the signs of aging are ever more popular with the buying public. We decided to take a look at the available evidence for '2-dimethylaminoethanol' also know as 'DMAE' or 'Deanol'.

DMAE is similar to 'B vitamin choline' and is a necessary for the production of acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter. There is mounting evidence to suppose acetylcholine regulates some basic cellular processes. This might explain the way DMAE acts on the skin.

In one study a gel containing three percent 3% DMAE was applied to the face every day for four months and it had several effects. It helped treat forehead lines forehead wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes, it improved the shape and fullness of the lips and the general appearance of aging skin.

These changes did not vanish when DMAE treatment was stopped for two weeks. DMAE was found to treat serious wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, nose to mouth lines, sagging necks and firmed neck skin.

The benefits of DMAE with regard to its skin firmimg properties can be measured by testing the tensile strength of skin. Although it is certainly an anti-inflammatory substance, the way is works is not certain, but probably has something to do with acetylcholine manufacture and its use in the skin. So far we know DMAE benefits include its anti-inflammatory effect, the way it increases skin firmness (treats loose skin) and possibly DMAE improves facial muscle tone."
